The collection consists of military records and papers of the 34th Infantry Regiment, U.S. Volunteers, active during the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1901). There is also correspondence, including that of General Julius Augustus Penn, commander of the regiment. The collection also contains a small group of letters related to World War II.
